Hi, I'm Caitlin!

I am a soon-to-be graduate of Skidmore College with a double major in Political Science and Sociology, with a minor in Asian Studies. My primary academic and research interests are American immigration policy, feminist political thought, and queer theory. In my free time, I enjoy soccer, writing, and media analysis of books and film.

Sociology and Political Science majors, Asian studies minor

Why these majors?

I initially thought I was going to major in Psychology when I first arrived to campus, but realized very soon that it did not do enough to bridge the gaps between the social world and the individual psyche for my liking. I also had an interest in philosophy, but upon taking an intro-level political philosophy course, I realized very soon it too lacked the real-world praxis that I was looking for.

I took advantage of the liberal arts curriculum at Skidmore and ended up double-majoring in Political Science and Sociology, finding that this combination best aligned with my interests in social justice advocacy and political action. Sociology offered the critical perspective on the transnational systems of domination I understood implicitly but lacked the language to articulate, and Political Science allowed for the practical application of these critical frameworks.

Much of my work experience has used the skills developed in both majors. I have extensive experience working with youth as a mentor and tutor in an array of fields, from athletics to academics. My personal interest in prose as a means for self-expression became the basis for my mentorship work with young students, from elementary to high school age, who I helped through personal projects ranging from coding games to story writing.
